actions towards creating new activities and expanding them, whether in startups or existing organizations. understanding the perceptions, memory, and thinking (estes, 1975) of entrepreneurial individuals –i.e. entrepreneurial cognition -become important when trying to understand such behavior and actions (krueger, 2003). the attention to entrepreneurial cognition has generated an impressive stream of literature since the early calls for such perspective (e.g. baron, 1998; mitchell et al., 2002). ajzen (1991) made a seminal contribution to the study of intention formation by proposing the theory of planned behavior, which entrepreneurship scholars have adopted to investigate intentions related to the start (kolvereid, 1996) and growth of new ventures (davidsson, 1991; wiklund & shepherd, 2000). the robustness of the intention model in entrepreneurship has been validated by recent empirical studies (kautonen et al. 2013; kautonen et al. 2015). since the intention model based on ajzen’s tpb seem to bear relevance in the entrepreneurship context, the interesting question is related to “what next?” how entrepreneurship scholars produce new theoretical insights about entrepreneurial cognition and especially related to intentions to start and expand new activities? our workshop aims to work on this direction by identifying future avenues for cognitive research in entrepreneurship. we next elaborate some topics in the hope of encouraging scholarly submissions to the workshop. call for papers download keynote speaker icek ajzen is a social psychologist and professor emeritus at the university of massachusetts amherst. he received his doctorate from the university of illinois at urbana–champaign, and is best known for his work, with martin fishbein, on the theory of planned behavior. ajzen has been ranked the most influential individual scientist within social psychology in terms of cumulative research impact and, in 2013, received the distinguished scientist award from the society of experimental social psychology. his research has been influential across diverse fields such as advertising, health psychology, and environmental psychology, and has been cited over 237,000 times. professor icek ajzen social psychologist and professor emeritus at the university of massachusetts amherst organizers adnane maalaoui is director for entrepreneurship programs at ipag business school. his researches mainly focus on entrepreneurship issues and especially on disadvantaged entrepreneurs (elderly, refugees, disabled entrepreneurs, etc.). he is interested in topics such as: entrepreneurial intention and cognitive approach to entrepreneurship. he mainly applies those questions to cases of diversity and social entrepreneurship. adnan maalaoui is the author of 20+ articles published in academic journals. likewise, he is the author of articles published in professional journals, and in edited books. adnane is also the author of a series of french speaking moocs on entrepreneurship. adnane maalaoui director for entrepreneurship programs at ipag business school erno tornikoski is a professor in entrepreneurship at grenoble ecole de management. he received his doctorate from essec business school, iae aix-en-provence, and vaasa university (finland) in 2005. he has worked at esc saint-etienne as dean of the faculty and research, at emlyon as associate professor in entrepreneurship, and at seinäjoki university of applied sciences (finland) as principal lecturer and research manager. his research interests are related to new venture creation (legitimacy, personal network, initial conditions), sustainable venturing, hybrid entrepreneurship, and new venture growth. his published research has appeared in jbv, etp, sbe, etc. erno is currently member of the energy management -research team in grenoble ecole de management and developing the theme of sustainable venturing. erno is engaged in many international academic services. he is associate editor of the journal of small business management, and consulting editor of the international small business journal, and in a member of review boards of jbv, etp, jsbm, and journal of world business. he is also member of the research committee of the entrepreneurship division (aom) and board of reviewers of bcerc (babson conference). erno tornikoski professor in entrepreneurship at grenoble ecole de management dr veronica scuotto after working four years at the university of the west of scotland (uk) she has recently joined the pôle universitaire léonard de vinci in paris as an associate professor in entrepreneurship and innovation. she received a phd in marketing and enterprise management from milan bicocca university (italy). her research interests are focused on smes, entrepreneurship and digital technologies. her work has been featured in several peer to peer journals such as the journal of organizational behaviour, production planning & control, technological forecasting and social change, international marketing review, journal of knowledge management, journal of technology transfer, business process management journal, journal of knowledge economy, information systems management journal, and international journal of entrepreneurship and innovation management. along professor mueller from university of waikato, she is also authored a book entitled «ict adoption for knowledge management: opportunities for smes» published by rossismith ac. pub., oxford, uk. veronica is an associate editor of journal of knowledge economy and governance journal. she is also an editorial board member of journal of knowledge management. she is a reviewer for the business process management journal, the management decision journal, and the international journal of entrepreneurship and innovation. furthermore veronica received two awards as the best paper of the euromed\sima track “new challenges in open innovation” in 2016 and the “best commended paper” in 2017 at the annual euromed academy of business (emab) conference. finally, veronica offers consultant services to small to medium enterprises and start-up based on her previous international professional experiences. she worked as commercial manager at gns china (consultancy company) based in beijing (china), she was marketing consultant for a fashion publishing and advertising agency, ichnos srl in naples (italy), and digital account manager at p.o.s.h. marketing agency in glasgow (the united of kingdom). veronica scuotto emlv ecole de commerce et management, paris, france francesco paolo appio, ph.d., is associate professor of innovation at école de management léonard de vinci and head of the business group at the research center of the léonard de vinci pôle universitaire (paris la défense). he is visiting scholar at mit sloan school of management and k.u. leuven. he also served as member of the mit reap (regional entrepreneurship acceleration program) initiative. he completed his ph.d. in management at scuola superiore sant’anna in pisa. his main research interests mainly revolve around three perspectives: the micro, by investigating the microfoundations of scientific breakthroughs discoveries as well as the emergence of radical technological inventions; the meso, by looking at the formation of collaborative networks and strategic alliances for innovation; the macro, by studying the characteristics of regional innovation systems and their impact on policy making and entrepreneurship. his work appears in journals such as long range planning, technological forecasting and social change, international journal of production research, scientometrics, among others. he
